"5K" is a powerful and emotionally charged short film that follows Mo', a 40-year-old man of Palestinian origin, as he navigates the complexities of diaspora life and the burdens of displacement. Set against the backdrop of Belgium and Cairo, the narrative unfolds through Mo's journey from Europe to Cairo, where he reunites with Mira, a friend who recently escaped from Gaza. Together, they embark on an opaque mission, coordinating movements and attempting to transfer thousands of dollars to facilitate the passage of family members across borders. Mo' grapples with the heavy responsibility of deciding who among his 20 family members will be able to cross first, each requiring $5,000. The film captures the silent struggles, the weight of decisions, and the poignant resilience of those caught in the crossfire of geopolitical conflicts. "5K" offers a glimpse into the lives of individuals who navigate the intersections of survival, loyalty, and moral choices in a world divided by borders.
