In "The Time of the Surge Tide," viewers are transported to Jenin, Palestine, to explore the enduring impact of displacement and conflict across generations. The documentary weaves the poignant narratives of 93-year-old Um Abdalla and her grandson Mohammed, a war photojournalist. Um Abdalla recounts her forced exodus from her home during the 1948 Nakba, or "the catastrophe," and her life in the Jenin Refugee Camp, a place marked by continuous struggle and resistance. Mohammed captures the ongoing violence and destruction in the camp, echoing his grandmother's stories of loss and resilience. Through their eyes, the film portrays the cyclic nature of conflict and the relentless pursuit of memory and identity in a land riddled with perpetual unrest. The documentary combines serene, contemplative imagery with intense scenes of current conflicts, offering a profound reflection on the challenges of preserving history and humanity in the face of relentless adversity.
